Education

With three county high schools, numerous middle and grade schools, and a thriving university and community technical college, the education system in Marion County speaks for itself, and the commitment to quality education is shared by educational leaders and the business community.

  • Mad City Money

    A partnership with Fairmont Federal Credit Union, this program is designed to provide high school freshmen an interactive experience on how to maintain a budget. Students are assigned careers, salaries, spouses, children and debt, and they must establish homes, utilities, transportation, food supplies, child care, etc.  At the end  of this exercise, students have a realization that staying within budget guidelines is very important and that sacrifices are sometimes necessary to make good decisions.

  • High School Business Symposium

    This symposium focuses on high school sophomores, teaching them how to start and run a successful business. It is a partnership between the business and education communities, and the symposium is held on the campus of Fairmont State University.

  • Youth Leadership Program

    This 6-month program was created to motivate promising youth to aspire to positions of leadership while developing an understanding of the community, its environment, resources, heritage and future challenges. The chamber invites students in their junior year to participate, and the goal is to inspire students’ civic pride and help them develop a sense of empowerment.

  • Senior Forum

    This 6-month program is designed to compliment the Youth Leadership Program by continuing to promote leadership skills and qualities. During the program, high school seniors work with a mentor who guides them as needed. For more information, please contact us.

Fairmont State University
Founded in 1865, FSU offers more than 90 baccalaureate degrees and graduate programs in business, criminal justice, education and human services. Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College share a 120-acre main campus in Fairmont. Partnership allows them to better serve the 7,450 students with the opportunity to find their future from more than 145 skill sets, certificates, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees and graduate programs. FSU features a branch campus in Clarksburg, the Gaston Caperton Center.

Pierpoint Community & Technical College

Pierpont Community & Technical College
Pierpont Community & Technical College is a comprehensive community college serving thirteen counties in north central West Virginia.  The institution now known as Pierpont Community & Technical College was founded in 1974 as Fairmont State Community & Technical College, a component of Fairmont State College.  Pierpont and Fairmont State now share a 120-acre main campus in Fairmont, West Virginia.  Through its Center for Workforce Education, Pierpont provides workforce training and community educational opportunities.  Pierpont’s Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center offers programs in flight and aviation maintenance. Through Off-Campus Programs, Pierpont offers a variety of courses at more than 15 sites in North Central West Virginia.

The area’s newest concept in wellness, the center offers a broad range of fitness and healthcare services. The facility houses physician practices and outpatient medical services as well as fitness equipment to optimize the health and wellness benefits to the community.

Fairmont & Manchin Clinics
